Wagon recycling service extended
Yarriambiack Shire Council's 'Little Yellow Wagon' mobile community recycling service has been extended into other smaller communities around the shire with five additional towns making the list.
Beginning this month, residents in Patchewollock, Speed, Lascelles, Woomelang, Yaapeet, Beulah, Brim, Minyip and Rupanyup will have access to the service which aims to provide an easy and convenient way to recycle or safely dispose of household problem wastes.
This includes gas bottles, fire extinguishers, paint, batteries, oils, fluoro lights, smoke detectors and electronic waste (E-waste).
Yarriambiack CEO Tammy Smith said the service encourages residents to separate the items, improving the quality of recycling.
“The council implemented an alternative method for collecting recyclable items that are not part of the kerbside collection system, which aligns with Council’s adopted Master Environment Strategy," she said.
The service was initially trialled in four towns, Beulah, Yaapeet, Patchewollock and Speed, earlier this year which received a positive response from residents with requests for the inclusion of additional items such as textiles.
On the first Friday of the month, the wagon will visit Patchewollock between 9am and 10am (Patchewollock General Store, 58 Federation St, Patchewollock), Speed from 10.30am to 11.30am (Post Office & General Store, 20 Chamberlain St, Speed), Lascelles from 12pm to 1pm (adjacent the Hotel on Boree St, Lascelles) and Woomelang between 1.45pm and 2.45pm (Woomelang Library, 16 Proctor St, Woomelang).
On the second Friday of the month, residents in Yaapeet can access the service from 9am until 10am, Beulah from 11.15am until 12.15pm and Brim between 1pm to 2pm (Memorial Hall on Swann St, Brim).
Minyip residents will have the service on the third Wednesday of the month between 1pm to 2pm (Minyip library, 74 Main St) while residents in Rupanyup can use the service on the third Thursday of the month between 1pm to 2pm (Dunmunkle Community Library Precinct, 59 Cromie Street, Rupanyup).
