Performances will take place on October 31, November 1, and November 2, with shows starting at 8pm each night.

This open-air theatre experience promises an evening of magic, mayhem, and laughter, blending physical comedy, puppetry, live music, and spectacular visuals.

Director Maddi Ostapiw and her ensemble cast have crafted a vibrant reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic that’s designed to delight both first-time theatre-goers and lifelong fans.

Smart Artz Theatre Inc. president Amy Anselmi, who also stars as Oberon, the Fairy King, said everything has been handcrafted with care.

“The acting, costumes, fairy puppets, sets, live piano, and even the hair and make-up styling are all coming together,” she said.

“Every detail has been handcrafted with imagination and care.”

Ms Anselmi said the production features striking 1920s-inspired costumes, giant insect-style fairy puppets operated by three performers, and daring choreography, including scenes delivered from the top of a three-metre ladder.

“It’s not your average sit-and-recite Shakespeare; it’s alive, kinetic, and full of energy,” she said.

Ms Ostapiw described the production as ‘an ensemble show in every sense.’

“Every cast member has contributed ideas, energy, and generosity,” she said.

“They’ve worked incredibly hard to master Shakespeare’s rhythm and humour while keeping it funny, fresh, and completely engaging for a modern audience.”

Adding to the magic, the Gardens will transform into a fairy-lit forest for the event.

Audiences are invited to arrive early for the Fairy Festival, which begins at 6pm and is included with every ticket.

Activities include face painting, garland-making, and storytelling, while food trucks will serve local favourites.

Patrons are also welcome to bring their own picnic, chairs, and drinks. BYO alcohol permitted.

Co-producer Onella Cooray said the show has been made possible thanks to the strength of local support.

“We’ve been so fortunate to have strong local backing,” she said.

“Our major sponsors, Priceline Horsham and RL Videography, along with support from Horsham Rural City Council, Horsham Town Hall, Botanic Gardens staff, and the Horsham Ag Society, have all been instrumental in helping us bring this ambitious project to life.”

The director and president both agree that the spirit of collaboration has been central to the show’s success.

“When you see everyone’s work - the set design, the costumes, the choreography, the musicianship - it’s impossible not to feel proud,” Ms Anselmi said.

“It’s been a huge undertaking, but the creativity and dedication of this team have made it something extraordinary.”
