Rebels dominated with Drive

The Horsham Badminton Association’s winter competition witnessed another fantastic night among both A and B Grades in Round 13 of the competition at the Horsham College Basketball Auditorium on Monday, August 18.

A GRADE

Net Ninjas proved their strength again against Racquet Rebels.

Johnny Joseph and Luke Dunn won two doubles sets each for their team with different partners.

Glen Jenkson also played his part and won two doubles sets for Ninjas.

Rebels’ Josh Dunn has only been able to win one doubles set and the only singles set against Luke Dunn by 20-22, 22-19 and 16-21.

The clash has seen a lot of sets go to three games, but the Rebels lost the match by four sets.

RESULT: Net Ninjas defeated Racquet Rebels by 7 sets to 3, 16 games to 8 and 471 to 412 points.

In the parallel A Grade court, Ace Avengers claimed a landslide victory against Shuttle Shifters.

Smash Stars’ Wajahat Ali, who played in place of Joel Beggs for the Avengers, continued his good form and claimed four sets for the team.

He defeated Brendan Nitschke by 21-9 and 21-10 in the singles set.

Avengers’ Lisa Heal also won three doubles sets for her team alongside Kakshdeep, Clayton and Paul.

Shifter’s have only been able to win two sets and five games.

RESULT: Ave Avengers defeated Shuttle Shifters by 8 sets to 2, 17 games to 5 and 449 to 362 total points.

B GRADE

The dominance of Drive drove away Volley.

Tojo Joseph was the standout performer, claiming three set wins, including two doubles and a single win against Whitney O’Sullivan by 23-21, 21-8.

Drive’s Jing Tang also won two doubles for her team.

Noime Powell, with Deni Dominic and Whitney O’Sullivan, won two doubles for Volley, but ended up on the losing side by three sets.

RESULT: Drive defeated Volley by 5 sets to 2, 10 games to 4, and 279 to 239 points.

In the other B Grade court, Clear Shot remain short of Drop Shot by just one set.

Carolyn Beggs of Drop Shot won two doubles sets for her side but lost the singles against Mark Ngoi in a three-game set by 15-21, 21-19 and 12-21.

Taylah Johnson and Steena Somson also played their part in the team’s win.

Clear Shot’s Mark Ngoi and Alvin Chong were superb throughout the match, but lost by just one set and two points.

RESULT: Drop Shot defeated Clear Shot by 4 sets to 3, 19 games to 7 and 321 to 319 total points.

The tournament is now heading towards the finals.
