Flynn of the Inland

Most people have heard of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which began with the work of Rev John Flynn.

A Presbyterian Minister, Flynn sought to reduce the isolation of the outback, connect people, and bring healing to those with no access to medical and other services.

Since the beginning, the services have grown and changed.

While the RFDS is now an entity on its own, the Uniting Church in Australia continues that mission of reaching out to, and supporting people in remote and isolated places, through the work of Frontier Services.

Frontier Services reaches out through Patrol Padres and volunteers who go and work with families in need of support.

People with skills in farming, engineering, childcare, teaching and many other areas are matched with people who need support.

Work Parties are also arranged where help with construction and maintenance is needed.

The Southern Mallee Cooperative Parish members from Hopetoun and Rainbow got together at Lake Lascelles to learn more about what Frontier Services provides and to give thanks.

A Service, prepared and led by Pam Clugston, included stories of hope shared by various people gathered.

After the service a meal was enjoyed and over $800 was raised to support this important service.
