Dimboola get the win in low-scoring match

Dimboola got the better of Warrack in a relatively low-scoring match in round eight of the Wimmera Football Netball League.

The final score was Dimboola 8.10 (58) to Warrack 6.8 (44).

Better players for Dimboola in the clash were Simon Hobbs and Will Griffiths, while Sam Hayden and Sam Hanna were in form for Warrack.

Andrew Moore and Jackson Calder were the only players for Dimboola to boot multiple majors, with a couple each, while for Warrack, Charlie Wilson kicked four goals.

For the Eagles it was the fifth game this season they had lost by 22 points or under.

Coach of Warrack, Matt Walder, lamented Saturday's tune was a beat similar to the course of the season.

"Just a period where the opposition kick a run of two, three, four goals and that's the difference in the match," Walder said.

"Defensively we are holding up okay, but offensively we are not penetrating enough and not testing the defence of the opposition to get a winning score.

"In one respect we are holding up well, but in the other we aren't putting enough pressure back on the opposition."

Widely regarded by other coaches in the league as having a good team and plenty of potential, Walder said if it was frustrating for people on the outside of the club, they could imagine the feelings on the inside.

"We all know there is something of substance there, we've got something genuine, it's just a matter of finding a way of breaking down that barrier," he said,

"But once we do, once we unlock the code, I think we should be okay, but until then we have to find a way.

"Don't get me wrong: internally we are all looking for ways to be better and improve, a dangerous opponent, but we aren't going to let the frustrations get to us; we are continuing to find ways.

"But at the end of the day you don't want to be the best losing side – that counts for nothing.

"You still have to come away with wins and give yourself a chance to be there at the end of the season."

This Saturday the Eagles will face Stawell, at Central Park.

Walder described their opposition this week as a "stable and steady side".

"They've got some power forwards, a couple of towering rucks, and they move the ball well enough around these fellas to give them ample opportunities to score and produce winning scores," he said.

"We are going to have to shut them down in our defensive 50 as much as we can to minimise their impact in scoring but quell the big men through the middle too.

"We halve things in the middle, we give ourselves a chance to have the footy in our forward territory and not the other way."

Walder said there was a bit of gumption about the group, and they hang in there until the end of each game.

"We know teams have to play well to get over us, but we just have to find a way to be more dangerous and get over the top of the opposition," he said.
