Donald Jeffcott has moved into premiership favourtism after an 8 wicket win over BrimKSH at the Donald Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Brim-KSH, missing Isaac McPherson, got off to a poor start losing three early wickets to be 3/13. Daniel Atkins picked up the prized wickets of Connor McGinniss for 2 and Jeremy Preston for 3 whilst Matthew Crisp was run out for 4.
BrimKSH battled hard to try to rebuild and Tim Bell, with a high score of 35, was the one to build around and Chris McPherson, Lachlan McGinniss and Leigh Dovaston all battled hard to do that but couldn't go on with their starts and were bowled out for 94 in the 35th over.
Lachlan Jones stormed through the middle order to finish with figures of 4/14 off 8 overs whilst Daniel Atkins finished with 2/13 off 5.
In the chase, Donald Jeffcott lost Will Noble for a duck and Cooper Anderson for 17, but it was Noah Berry who continues his prolific season with the bat steering them home in the 26th over with an unbeaten 59 off 72 balls. That moves his season tally to 304 runs in 5 matches and keeps them unbeaten after six rounds.
For Brim-KSH, Charlie Dean, 1/18 and Lachlan McGinniss, 1/20, were the wicket takers.
BrimKSH opening batsman Matthew Crisp said it was a disappointing day.
"It was pretty disappointing, but that is how it is sometimes. We had a bad day," he said.
"We just found silly ways to get ourselves out. They are a very good side and it's hard to go to their ground and get a win.
"At the end of the day, we have achieved what we wanted to achieve up in the lead up to the bye. We are in second place on the ladder and it has been a great start to the season."
The matches between Marnoo and Wycheproof/Narraport and St Arnaud and Birchip were abandoned without a ball being bowled due to the weather.
At Brim Recreation Reserve, in the B Grade, it was Donald Jeffcott also securing a win by 5 wickets over BrimKSH.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the home side finished with 8/114 off their 40 overs. Bary Schilling top scored with 33 runs whilst Sandon Schultz and Ethan Schilling scored 28 and 20 respectively.
When they fell, so did the middle order with Joshua McPherson the only one to score double figures with 11.
Jett Adams was the best bowler for Donald Jeffcott with 2/23 off 8 overs whilst Jacob Donnellon also finished with 2/29 off 8 overs.
In the run chase a 69 opening partnership to Damon Ethakada and Glenn Pearse, scoring 24 and 33 respectively, set them up and they chased down the total in the 30th over, finishing with 5/116.
Joshua McPherson with 3/38 (7.1) and Jordan McPherson 2/12 (2) were the wicket takers.
The other matches between Birchip and St Arnaud, Southern Mallee Giants and Charlton and St Marys and Watchem were also abandoned without a ball being bowled.
